Groping my way back to work using sketchbooks
Getting back to routines in my sketchbooks
Hello there,
Everytime I get back from a vacation I find it tough to just throwing myself into the work routine straight away, unless I am working on a client project with deadlines looking over my head. Sketchbooks are what fall back on to climb up and out of the holiday mode and get back working.
Though, if you have been following me for sometime, know that I am an avid sketchbook keeper and work in them every single day, even when I am on holidays. Just that they are most of the times, just scribbly lines , experiments and finding a way to love and try new stuff.
I love playing in my sketchbooks and after a vacation or break, I find sketchbooks as a way to getting back to a work routine.
Here are few sketchbook works from the last 2 weeks.
So say HELLO!! Done in watercolor pencils
Few more of the sketchbook play.
Also, did some TREEs on LIVE drawing session with Odd Orange. Each of these were timed at 2mins
Some price tags (on t-shirts) painted.
Ok, so that’s a rant of all the sketchbook works since I got back from vacation, so in the last 2 weeks or so. I am slowly getting into the routine of writing back here.
I would love to know how do you bounce back on your feet working immediately after a long holiday. Do you have a process? Any best practices or secret sauces? Routines? Would love love love to hear

Hi Rekha, these are beautiful drawings! I especially love the pig in watercolor pencils. Getting back to work after vacation is always hard. For the winter holidays, I left a final art spread unfinished, so when I came back from vacation, I just picked up where I left off and it was an easy transition. This time was a lot harder because I didn't leave anything unfinished on purpose (unless you count my dummy!) and I also barely drew the entire time we were on vacation, for 5 weeks. I eased back into it and didn't force myself to draw. I also started with working in sketchbooks, doing colored pencil sketches of our travels. Then that gave me enough encouragement to go back to the dummy. That way, once my daughter went back to school, I was already in "work" mode!
Ooooh this little piggy is super cute! 😍
