Hello,
Sorry for the long silence, was just hibernating between project deadlines, getting sick and attending to kids exams. And you know how it is when you lose the momentum, it just takes longer to get back into the practice.
So here I am finally.
Firstly, here's the fabulous book release, a lovely poetry collection. Published by Oxford University Press Wiggle Wonderful
My favourite is the dancing Crocodiles illustrated for the poem written by Joseph Coelho .
Here's how I started off with -
To start with, I did loads of dancing poses, drawing kids and adults dancing. I drew from old vintage pics, Bollywood steps, ballet, freestyle, hip hop. Here are few of the pages from my sketchbook. Very rough, very sketchy and very crappy. Mostly on timer, 1 minute each.
Then I drew a ton of crocodiles. Attached are few of the sketchbooks pages.
The next step was to combine the above two process. Which is draw the crocodiles in the poses. Needless to mention. This was my most favourite step.
Later, the sketches of the dancing crocodiles were drawn digitally from the start. (I usually don’t import and draw over, as, for me personally, I feel I lose the life and movement, so I start over from the start). I did 2 color options for the crocs and we finally went with the green.
So once the rough stage was approved with the color and poses and the final stage was to add in the details, choosing color palette and patterns for the clothing and accessories. This was fun as the brief mentioned the Croc should look fun and flamboyant colors with colorful patterns.
Below were the final approved illustrations.
Have fun and have a great day. Do let me know in the comments below if you would like to see more like this.
